Team for Man Utd
When I saw Coffee's excellent Preview thread I thought maybe we don't need this one, but it seems nobody is talking about line-ups and formations on there. So, at risk of overkill, I'll go ahead anyway.

Obviously there is a positive side to "winning ugly", as we saw against Leeds. We put in an enterprising and entertaining performance against City in the previous game but lost. In an ideal world we would have the best of both games, but we don't live in an ideal world - at least, not quite. But going into this match in 5th place in the table is about as ideal as it gets. Man Utd are inconsistent in their performances too, which makes this an intriguing and unpredictable game.

We can't be sure about the formation, but on balance I would expect Moyes to revert to three at the back for this one. Lingard won't be available to play against his parent club, so the liveliest debate will be about which two out of Fornals, Bowen and Benrahma get the nod - will COYI entertain us with his usual guarantee? Bowen is a concern - he has looked increasingly out of his depth and maybe a little bit overweight. I never thought I would say it but I would prefer Lanzini to Bowen at the moment, but I would definitely stick with Benrahma and Fornals to start.

The Exile - I wouldn't disagree with that team... agree about Bowen, I don't think he has reacted well to losing his place to Lingard.

Re: Team for Man Utd
Ludo - Do keep up Lingard took Benrahma's place because Moyes only rates him as a Championship player courtesy of COYI.

But seriously they've been rotated, but he'd list his form before that.

Re: Team for Man Utd
fraser - LOL... not sure about that though.Lingard made his debut away at Villa in which Benrahma played (and Bowen didn't).

Personally thought that was our best performance (along with Palace away). Benrahma linked up well with Lingard. Not really sure why Moyes has been so reluctant to play Benny and Lingard together more often... obviously can't on Sunday.

Lot of ManU’s attacking threat has come from Luke Shaw along their left, our right, flank.

To counter that I’d put Fredericks in front of Coufal.

Good shout, Comma, but I'm not sure if he's fit.

Re: Team for Man Utd
Does Moyesiah gamble that they will start slow first half as has been their way all season and try to get ahead by playing a 4 - 4 -2 with Benrahma on the pitch and then close up shop. Or does he play defensively from kick off and change things to catch them later in the game ( assuming we are not already behind )?

Starting with 3 at the back and defensively should include "Square toed boots Fredericks" IMO in order, as Comma says, to keep Rashford and Shaw and their quicker players at bay. Then introduce Bowen and / or Benny after the 60 min mark. But all depends on being able to keep them at bay. Some will of course say "play on the front foot" and attack them from the off but IMO that would see us ship two or three.

Yes I am being serious!

I guess you may be right on the wings backs as against M City, but I would like to keep it like Leeds.

Maybe go three at the back for this one but not sure who else can play lwb apart from Johnson?

Thought Benrahma was pretty poor against Leeds not sure if he will start. Think Bowen will.

Re: Team for Man Utd
Benrahma was our best attacking threat against Leeds, not that it's saying much as both Lingard and Antonio were poor.

Re: Team for Man Utd
Worst I’ve seen Antonio play for a while but hopefully it was a one off. He looked absolutely fucked but he still subbed benrahma. I don’t see Benrahma starting.

If he plays 3cbs I think our 3 attackers will be Bowen Antonio and fornals

Benrahma shows flashes of quality but over 20 games for us now without a goal.

"Benrahma shows flashes of quality but over 20 games for us now without a goal."

Indeed. Good to see others waking up to the ZERO return in terms of goals from a £25 million signing. All three of our biggest ever signings have been shit (Haller, Anderson and Benrahma).

It is quite shocking that we wasted so much money on a fancy dan, Championship show pony who can't score at this level.

We had more shots against City then against Leeds with a supposedly more attacking line up,work that one out.
I think the exile team is the one to go with but to attack a bit more than against City, slightly further up the field with our pressing.
Hopefully Rashford is out as he always seems to cut us to bits.
Let's hope we get a dodgy throw in that goes our way.

We wont go five at the back. Team picks itself.

Mex's team is what we will play for sure.

Re: Team for Man Utd
COYI - everyone is aware of your thoughts on Benrahma. Repeating them daily is rather tedious for us all.

Man U have only lost one game this year, which was against Sheff Utd, surprisingly, and their form is starting to pick up momentum.

Benrahma seems to be developing a good on-field relationship with Lingard but has Jesse is out I'd go with Bowen as he could do with the game time and will be eager to remind Moyes of what he can do.

I have a feeling that Lanzini may also play a part.

Mickey Rat 2:40 Thu Mar 11
Re: Team for Man Utd
I like Benrahma but we should definitely have targeted Ollie Watkins instead, we need a consistent scorer alongside Antonio in case Lingard goes back up north and when Mikey's injured. Have to hope Moyes has a cunning plan up his sleeve and we can get something from set pieces.

Re: Team for Man Utd
I also thought Benrahma was the poorest of our starting attacking midfielders against Leeds. He is good on the ball and going forward, but once on the edge of the box he too often didn’t know what to do and took a really crap long punt at goal. It was a complete waste and was just giving up and giving them the ball back. I can agree it wasn’t all Benrahma’s fault and our players were not giving him options. However, if he cannot see any options to go forward, I would have preferred at back or side pass to restart the attack and to continue looking for the break.
